Getting VoIP to Register

If your VoIP goes down and it won't come on after a reset, your router may be taking up the port that your device uses to register. It used to seem like it was ISP's blocking these ports (that might be the case sometimes), but we narrowed it down to the router itself tying up the port.

Note: If you continually have to change the port to register make sure DMZ IS NOT turned on and that should help.

So to change the registration port log into your ATA (try 192.168.1.1 if its a linksys adapter) and under advanced settings/line 1. Look for something called SIP Port, it is usually betwen 5060 and 5070. Try changing the port to something else in that range.

In the picture above it is set to 5065, simply change it to 5061 and hit save. Your VoIP should register and get a dialtone. If not contact your VoIP provider for further help.
